Our Director,
Dr.
Ashley Williams, started his early learning in music under the guidance of his father, the late Maestro J. T. William Joseph. In 1985 he was selected under a scholarship to pursue his professional studies of music at Manila,
Philippines. During his stay and study in the Philippines, he specialized in conducting, voice, piano, guitar, organ playing, and ethnomusicology.
He also had the opportunity of being a part of, and performing with, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Philippine Madrigal Singers, and the Asian
Chorale; he was also the only Indian to accompany the Asian Chorale on its concert tour of Sweden, where he performed for the King and Queen. Dr.
Williams has done extensive research on the history, origin and performance of the
Sitar. He later joined Sophia High School and Notre Dame Teachers’ Training College where he headed the music, literary, and cultural
departments.
- Honored with a Doctorate in Music, Trinity Open University.
- Produced and directed many Broadway musicals, some of which are Oliver Twist, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, Jungle Book.
- Produced many fund raising concerts
as Director of the 100 year old Bangalore Musical Association,
some of which are ‘GUJARAT EARTHQUAKE RELIEF CONCERT’,
and ‘KARGIL CONCERT’, which was attended by the three retired chiefs of the Navy, Army and Air Force.
- Composed and directed the music for Tom Stoppard’s ‘Rough Crossing’
- Directed and re-arranged the recording of ancient Kannada Folk songs.
